Pre-Morphin' Time

More and more Alice was finding that she found solace in solitude. In that respect, the park was the ideal place for her to spend her time. She no longer had to run around doing ridiculous things with the other cheerleaders or listen to Chaz pretend to know everything about his stupid sports car. Best of all, she didn't have to deal with the looks and the whispering. In the park she could just be herself.

It was early afternoon and Alice had already spent a few hours jogging the trails and was contemplating going for a drive on a few of the trails. In the end, however, she gradually gravitated toward other people. Despite her aversion to crowds, she wasn't entirely an isolationist. Besides, the person she'd spotted across the open visitor area was dribbling a soccer ball.

When the ball went wide, Alice jogged to intercept it and with a flick of her foot, scooped the ball up and bounced it off the top of her foot and then her knee before catching it in the palm of her right hand. Walking toward the boy, she tilted her head slightly; he looked somewhat familiar but she couldn't quite place where she'd seen him. No doubt, since he was about her age, it was at school...but she couldn't bring to mind a specific class. Certainly he wasn't on the soccer team, she knew all of the boys on the soccer team; some would claim to know her more intimately that others.

"Hey." Alice said with a tentative smile as she held out the ball. She was never sure how people were going to act anymore. Which ones knew and which ones didn't...or more importantly which ones believed the vicious lies about her.

"What are you doing?" Mrs. Williams asked her son, who had just flopped stomach first on the unmade bed. His head was snug underneath the weight of his two, soft pillows on his head, but he was still able to talk clearly and loudly for his pregnant mother. "Taking a nap." Colin admitted. Mrs. Williams knew better though. Her son had just spent the last couple hours tending to her every need, and that's not including the past couple days.

She kept a hand on her protruding stomach, a smile stretching the corners of her lips. Colin hadn't seen sunlight for far too long and she knew it wasn't right to keep her son locked up, even if he hadn't complained or admitted to wanting to go outside in the first place. "Your dad will be home soon. Go outside for a run or something." She waddled over to the bed and bent slightly to the side, forcing the sheets off her son's body to emphasize on her demand.

With a sigh, Colin sat up and started to lazily roll his shoulders, eyeing his mother before getting up to put on some day clothes. He knew better than to argue and it wasn't like she was lying either. One hour ago, the replacement called and said he'd be coming home early from work after picking up some groceries. He supposed his stepfather could take over now and allow Colin the free time he so desperately needed.

Soon as his phone was in the pocket and his ball was tucked securely underneath his arm, Colin left the house and stepped out into the sunshine. He took in a deep breath before making his way to the National Park.

The park was active, filled with people doing several, different things at once. These days, Colin found it hard to find a place at the park, just so he could do his own thing. Of course, he could try and invade in other people's activities - that was something he only often did for a response. This time, however, he was able to find enough space to himself where he could dribble the ball and practice what he'd been too busy to do.

He lost the ball somewhere, watching it with a sigh as the ball was flung away from him. Just when he was about to go get it, he witnessed a girl retrieve it in expert fashion. "Woah," Colin mumbled as he jogged up to her. Impressive was an understatement, but that could also be because not many people could handle a soccer ball like that if it were their first try. "Hey," He answered back once he was close enough, reaching out to take the ball from her, "Thanks."

"You look familiar." Colin had seen a bunch of people around and only cared to learn the name of most. "You go to Angel Grove High?" She did look kinda familiar.

Alice smiled as the boy jogged over and caught the ball she tossed to him. He seemed a little surprised by her skill and quite frankly she was fine with that. Some people found it a bit strange that she would know anything about sports let alone actually be good at them. So far as many of the people in town knew, she was just another ditzy cheerleader. A stupid persona she’d adopted to please her mother and make a name for herself.

Well, now her name was ruined and there wasn’t much she could do about it. Alice’s expression quickly became guarded as the boy, who looked vaguely familiar himself, seemed to recognize her. Expecting the typical reactions that her presence seemed to elicit, she gave a tight-lipped smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

”Yeah, I do. You go there too, I think. But you’re not on the soccer team.” She knew everyone on the soccer team. According to rumor, some more than others. But she wasn’t going to bring it up if he didn’t. She just hoped that he wasn’t one of the boys that assumed that the rumors were true and she was loose.

From the look of it, this girl really was familiar. Probably one of those individuals he stared at for a couple seconds in the hall, or just a person he'd sat next to in class that he hadn't taken the time to acknowledge. And it wasn't like he didn't notice because he put himself high above everyone else, but simply for the reason that he was forgetful and had the tendency to not take in his surroundings - or in this case, to not take in who was in his surroundings.

"Teams aren't my thing." He explained with a grin, turning the ball absently in his hands. It wasn't a knock to anyone playing on a team, but he didn't care too much for his school teams. Then as Colin took in the girl's appearance, something sparked and a name ended up being catapulted past the boy's lips, "It's Alice, right?" If he was right - and boy, did he hope he wasn't - Colin would have to choose his next words very carefully.

Alice had once been a team player type. She loved team sports and could be just as competitive as the next gal, but when you have girls you've trusted to toss you into the air just drop you both figuratively and literally out of vindictive and misguided spite, you tend to pull back hard and fast. She hadn't even begun to recover mentally, or physically for that matter from the epic betrayal. Every glance or greeting had the potential to spiral into some massive condemnation fest and she wasn't sure she could handle much more of it.

It was probably too much to ask that just one person in this God forsaken town hadn't heard the rumor in one form or another, but when the boy with the soccer ball seemed to have a moment of realization, her stomach dropped. One of three things would happen now; he would mock her, hit on her or things would get awkward as they tried to ignore the big fat elephant named Chaz that lurked in the proverbial room. Outwardly her expression became slightly more closed off and guarded, just a subtle flattening of the line of her lips or a faint furrow of her brow.

"Yeah, that's me."
