Running.

Running away from his problems and responsibilities, running away from his hordes of admirers…and running down the football field to score the game-winning touch down as the clock hits zero in the 4th quarter… Yes, almost every aspect of his life involved running. Ryan Reese was perfectly okay with that. Maybe that sounded a little dramatic, he wasn’t always running from things. It was probably only like…60% of the time. If that.

This evening had brought him to the outskirts of the bustling town of Angel Grove. The bike trail he was running on went through a foresty area and was probably one of Ryan’s favorite places to be. There weren’t usually many, if any, people whenever he came out here and it was one of the few places where he could actually be alone. He didn’t have to worry about his father watching his every move out here. It was nice and peaceful.

It wasn’t that he had a problem with his father. His father had always been a good dad, for the most part. It was just hard always trying to meet his expectations and be perfect like his father expected him to be. Granted, he was basically perfect, but sometimes he did make mistakes and his father always tended to overreact to it. His mother wasn’t much better. They were just set in their ways and they had this image of having the perfect son who would one day be the world’s best football player. Ryan hoped for hat too, but sometimes it sucked to be pushed so hard. Everyone had their problems...and everyone had different ways to cope with them. This was one of his.

He’d been running along the trail for about fifteen minutes now with no signs of other people. His headphones were in his ears blasting a wide-variety of music to help keep him motivated as he jogged along. With it being very apparent that he was alone, he dared to even start singing to the song currently playing. It was one of his favorite songs, but also that one song that he would never, ever, EVER let his teammates catch him jamming out to,

”…the strength to believe….
We’re breaking free!
We’re soaring, flying
There's not a star in heaven that we can't reach
If we're trying
Yeah we're breaking free
Oh we're breaking free, ooooh…”

Everyone had their guilty pleasures and Ryan Reese was no exception. Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens had the voices of angels and something about those High School Musical songs were just so catchy and relatable. He would never admit it, but he was pretty sure Troy Bolton was his spirit animal. No, really, that was a secret he would probably take with him to the grave. He would die if anyone ever knew that.

He was so into the moment that he didn’t notice the other person coming down the trail until it was almost too late. In fact, he was so startled by the appearance of this person that he just didn’t notice how this part of the trail had a bit of a dip in the ground. He was so concerned with stopping his singing and trying to look cool and hope she hadn’t heard it (which is unlikely because he wasn’t exactly singing quietly) that he managed to be completely caught off guard by the change in terrain. The next thing Ryan knew, he was falling forward towards the ground - right into the poor person who just happened to have been so close to passing him at the time. ”Shit! Look out!” Ryan called out in warning…but it was too late.

They certainly weren’t ‘soaring’ or ‘flying’ any more….

Cling to the well-known. Cling to the freedom. Don't think about change. Enjoy the moment. Mickayla took off into a sprint, carreening down the forested paths from a gentle jog. Why couldn't she even clear her head anymore? There were no distractions around her. Nothing to even remind her of how the real world was fast approaching her. For some reason, it felt like she could simply outrun the inevitable. But that was crazy talk.

No earbuds. No music. Just her own thoughts and insecurities. The trees whizzed past her, every step pounded with little regard for a graceful step. Why was this killing her now? Why couldn't she just go for a run like any other day? There were months before she had to worry about everything. The stupid time constraint was going to choke her out. Everything felt like it was closing in, despite the open, fresh air of the forest that she surrounded herself in these days. Why was she so scared?

Kayla came to a rather abrupt stop once the terrain evened out. She was being careless. The blonde was done caring for a moment. 'Poor little rich girl', Kayla could imagine anyone saying if she were to voice her concerns to anyone out loud, 'afraid of working,' they would taunt. 'Better hope Daddy changes his mind about kicking the princess off her throne.'

The truth was, Kayla was terrified of the real world. All her life, her dad had given her an amazing life. And she knew he would continue to do so as long as Kayla actually made an effort to succeed. But the requirements had never been that pressing. She was spoiled, she knew that. It didn't dawn on her until recently. Kayla would talk a good game to her dad about becoming a fashion designer like mom or maybe go into business with him. But, neither of those things sounded remotely good long-term. Was she going to have to simply suck it up and deal with it? How did she get so caught up in the mindset that high school was forever? Senior year was coming up and she wasn't ready.

As Kayla caught her breath, she could hear some very familiar lyrics being belted out with well-practiced accuracy. Someone was very in-tune with their High School Musical. She definitely approved. However, seeing the person behind the voice, was less pleasing.

Alright, alright, Ryan Reese was an extremely attractive person. But he knew that. And that was the problem. Besides the cheerleader-football player expectation, Kayla was not about that 'ayyy girl' life. Ryan, like most of the big shot athletes at the school, was a dog. Even though he was currently single, it was well known that he was ready to mingle with any cute face with boobs. Not that Kayla hadn't dated any of the popular crowd but they didn't last long and she actively avoided the known 'players'. It was better that way.

Her first instinct was to push through. He was distracted by pre-God Zefron, according to the lyrics he was still singing out. Until he wasn't, but so far, Kayla hadn't made eye contact and wasn't being stopped mid-jog so this was good. It was all fine and dandy. Until it wasn't.

The narrow trail would have been just enough room to squeeze by had it not been for Ryan's loss of footing. "Hey!" Mickayla exclaimed out of pure reaction, pitch rising instantly to a scream. Without thinking she latched onto the person who all but barreled into her. Luckily, they'd twisted during the fall, letting their shoulders and arms hit before their heads, into the unforgiving dirt and uneven ground. But it was still plenty painful, especially because she was pinned under him. "Ryan! What the hell?!" She let go from the cling-hug. "Owww." She turned her head to the burning on her elbow, though it was covered by the larger teenage boy. Kayla was no little thing, standing at an above-average 5'9" but compared to Ryan, she was not going anywhere until he got up.

Ryan tried to regain his balance, really he did. Unfortunately, while Ryan was many things, a cat he was not. Despite all of the years he had dedicated to playing sports and having ‘quick feet’, he just couldn’t seem to catch himself before he fell into the other person. The person that he hadn’t even noticed because he’d been too busy belting out Disney lyrics like a fool. He wasn’t sure what was worse, the fact that he was falling into some random person or the fact that said-person might have overheard him singing.

The person let out a scream and latched onto him as they fell down. He did his best to shield the girl from the fall but it all happened so fast that there was little more he could do than wrap his arms around her. Needless to say, it didn’t feel so nice when they hit the ground. Of course, as someone who spent so much time out on the football field, it was a feeling Ryan was sort of used to by now. That didn’t make it any less unpleasant, however. He was sure to have a few scrapes and bruises after that fall. Falling was a lot nicer when you had all of that protective equipment on.

He was a little dazed from the fall, even more dazed by the beautiful girl he was now laying on top of…in the most unromantic manner possible. It wasn’t until she spoke up that he realized who it was. ”Mickayla? Well isn’t this a surprise. I didn’t expect you to fall for me. Or was I the one falling for you?” he asked her cheekily. He could never pass up the chance to flirt with an attractive woman and Mickayla was certainly one of the most attractive girls to walk the halls of Angel Grove High. Despite the fact that she was a cheerleader and he was on the football team, he really didn’t even know her that well. They had never really interacted an excessive amount over the years - just kind of hung out with the same group of people sometimes. Clearly this was a sign that things needed to change.

He frowned as he realized she was hurt…and that it was his fault. ”Are you alright? I’m sorry, I didn’t really notice you were there…I was a bit distracted,” he apologized. It took him a few more moments to take notice of the awkward position and close proximity they were in…and the fact that he was preventing her from being able to move. ”Oh shit…sorry,” he apologized again. Probably the most he had ever said that word in his life.

He pushed himself up off of her, wincing as he felt a stinging feeling on his knees and one of his elbows. He offered a hand out to her to help her up. ”Hopefully I didn’t bang you up too much. I haven’t even had the chance to take you out to dinner yet,” he commented. She was probably one of the few cheerleaders he hadn’t ever gone out with. Not to say that he hadn’t tried once or twice in the past but she had never really seemed overly interested in him…and he’d had plenty of other women who were. Still, she had hit him like a brick wall and now he was intrigued. Of course, almost crushing her wasn’t likely to win any brownie points, unfortunately…

Someone forgot to tell the boy that it was possible to interact with someone of the opposite sex without hitting on them, Mickayla was sure. Ryan clearly didn't get the memo. His cheekiness would be cute if it wasn't so infuriating. Gosh, he made her mad. Why did he have to be so 'gift to all mankind'??? "Pretty sure you're the one head over heels for me," she smirked, not about to admit to falling for him even in jest. Because, uh, no. Not going to be a thing.

It was bad to judge people purely by reputation, Kayla knew that. But she had a tendency to run in the same social circles as Ryan and it wouldn't be the first time he tried coming on to her. It was a yo-yo affair and up until the lines about falling for him, he'd been fine. It wasn't that Kayla really had anything against Ryan but she also wasn't going to be that girl that fawned over the coach's son. She wasn't going to be that cheerleader that needed her big, strong football player to get or keep her status. Kayla refused. Besides, she was pretty sure that much like herself, Ryan's attraction ended with appearances. And if that was the case, it wouldn't work for either of them. Ryan might have been looked up to as some big game player but Kayla was not going to be the girl that ended up with half the cute guys in school. Way to go, double social standards.

"I think I'm okay. Nothing broke but still; oww." Her elbow and some spots along her arms where Ryan wasn't covering her arms with his own were nice and scratched. She was sure there was going to be some bruising where the boy's muscular build got in-between her and the ground. Muscles were solid and it felt like she might as well have fallen on a padded rock. Falling sucked, no matter what. As a cheerleader, dropping was definitely not something she wanted to get used to. She raised an eyebrow at his last statement, though, "Yeah, no kidding, Wildcat." She couldn't even sound half as bitter as intended. She was too busy grinning at what seemed like a whole scandal that was suddenly uncovered.

Mickayla shook her head, "it's okay." She was doing her best to be very plain in her words. Because in all honestly, she hurt. And she was a little upset with the proximity of, well, everything. This was awkward. But it would have been worse if she wasn't focused on the scrapes on her legs and arms. At least Ryan as apologizing. She half way expected worse, to be honest. Despite the horrible pick up--Nevermind. It was bad. Ugh. Mickayla took his hand with a tight-lipped smile. "Mmn, bet that's rare, huh? I'll have you know this would at least earn the additional but horribly cliche movie tacked on beforehand," she flashed him a cheeky smirk of her own. It was proving hard to be hostile when Ryan actually showed remorse. Still, she was so far from the girls who practically threw themselves at him.

Ryan smirked at Mickayla’s comeback. ”In the literal sense, I suppose,” he said. Okay, she was very attractive. Easily one of the best looking girls in the entire school, Ryan was pretty sure about that. He wasn’t about to play easy to get however. All these ladies seemed to think that he was easy and would put out just like that. In many cases they were right, but this was not one of them. It wasn’t likely to get him very far when dealing with this woman who had spent the last few years hardly acknowledging his existence. That had to be the greatest sin in all of history, Ryan was pretty sure.

Besides, he had almost flattened her like a pancake. He definitely couldn’t be easy after that. Running the hot girl over was certainly a great way to get her attention but probably not the best way to get her to go out with him. Unless she had some really weird kinks, getting knocked into and falling like that wasn’t very sexy. It hadn’t been a smooth move at all and Ryan didn’t even want to think about what song he had been singing. He just prayed that she hadn’t overhead that part.

At least he hadn’t hurt her too bad, he legitimately would have felt terrible if he had done such a thing. Aside from being shaken up and a little scrapped up, Mickayla seemed to be perfectly fine. Hopefully she wasn’t just trying to downplay it and act all macho about it. That was kind of his thing to do. He certainly didn’t appreciate anyone stealing his thunder.

His brow furrowed at the mention of the term ‘Wildcat’. In any other circumstance, he probably would have thought it was pretty hot for her to call him that. In this current moment, however, it had him feeling just a little nervous. She hadn’t heard him singing, had she? He gave a slight shake of his head. As quickly as the look of worry had appeared, it was gone. ”Wildcat? i can’t say I know what you’re talking about there, Mickayla?” he asked her. He would just play dumb, yeah, that would work.

He helped pull her up to her feet, letting out a laugh at her joke. See, she was cable of making a joke and smiling! Imagine that! Boy, oh boy, was that smiling breathtaking. How had he never paid close attention to that before? ”I’m trying to decide if that is a good thing or a bad thing,” he admitted, slightly amused. He would probably be happy to go through any movie cliches he could with her. ”And I really am sorry about running you over,” he apologized again. He was setting a record for that one.

"Mhmm," Mickayla hummed back at him. Past advances by Ryan would indicate more than just the 'literal sense.' That she was straight out complaining. But it was pretty clear she was challenging that cool response. It was fun to challenge people who usually had girls worshiping his every move and word.

At the sound of Ryan's insistence, Kayla's eyebrows rose with a new enthusiasm. Oh! He was really trying to pull that card. Well! That was fun. With how close their faces were at the moment, she definitely didn't miss that passing worry across his face. "You don't? Huh. Interesting. Because it sure sounded like you were channeling your inner Troy Bolton, Ryan," she blinked at him with ridiculously false innocence. Luckily for Ryan, Mickayla wasn't the malicious type. But she wasn't going to play dumb for the sake of his ego. He was just going to have to live with someone challenging Mr. Football Star for once. At least she was being lighthearted about it.

Using Ryan's help to get up, Mickayla pulled herself to her feet with a slight bounce as she found her footing. She took a step back, brushing the dirt and pine needles that stuck to her from the fall. "Ah, mysteries," the girl shook her head, her gaze dropped for a second and Mickayla mentally backtracked. That...might have come off a little too strongly. But maybe Ryan wouldn't notice. Hopefully. That was her bad. Ugh, but he was cute though. That laugh. No, stop. That needs to stop, she thought to herself. She was not going to be making any moves on Ryan Reese. Bad idea. "Don't even worry about it. I'm totally fine. Are you good?" All the concern was nice and all and she really appreciated that he wasn't being douchey about it, but she had to show she cared, too!

His blue eyes flickered with amusement at Mickayla’s response. She certainly wasn’t about to start throwing herself at him, it would seem. He supposed he expected nothing less from her. While most of the other cheerleaders usually seemed happy to grovel at his feet, she had never been amongst them. She had always seemed ‘too dignified’ to act like that. Ryan supposed it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. He had always enjoyed a challenge. Instead of annoying him, he actually found it to be intriguing. She was different from the others. Sometimes different was good.

He was powerless to stop the flush that spread across his cheeks at the mention of Troy Bolton. Though he tried to keep his expression neutral, his eyes gave it away - they were radiating the ‘oh shit’ look. There was no getting himself out of this one, was there? She had totally heard him singing. Still, calling him Troy Bolton. That was a compliment, right? He had no problems being compared to Zac Efron. The dude was a stud - that was a fact. Ryan certainly wouldn't turn down a marriage proposal from the guy and he was as straight as they come. ”Um…I… Well… Um…” he stammered, at a loss for words for once in his life. He was trying to thin up some excuse or explanation to cover his ass but…he had nothing. Absolutely nothing. Thanks a lot, brain. ”Okay, you caught me. I may or may not have been singing along to a Disney classic,” he admitted, holding his hands up in defeat.

”It’s really catchy, okay? And you have to admit, I sing it pretty well. At least, it wasn’t half bad. Right? Ugh. Whatever. just don’t tell anyone,” he told her, eyes narrowing slightly. ”Please,” he tacked on after a moment. He would never hear the end of it from his teammates if they ever knew. He’d be the laughing stock of the entire high school, actually, Surely she had no desire to soil his reputation and make the world despise him, right? It wasn’t like he had ever done anything to her.

The trademark smirk was able to work its way back onto his face at her response. It was probably the closest thing to a ‘flirty response’ he had gotten out of her since he had bumped into her. He would certainly take it for what it was worth…which probably wasn’t much, but still. ”Fortunately I am great at solving mysteries. I used to help my grandma play those dumb little detective games all the time. You know, the ones where you had a random room full of junk and had to find certain items? Yeah, I’m kind of an expert…” he informed her, trailing off as he realized he was starting to ramble. She probably didn’t really care about his grandmother’s hobbies. ”That was back when I was a kid though. Not a more recent interest like the um…singing,” he added, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

Be cool, Reese. Just be cool.

He was relieved to hear that she seemed to be alright. It wouldn’t do him any good if he had hurt one of the members of the cheer squad because he was too clumsy to keep his footing. ”Good, I’m glad. My dad would probably have my neck if he saw how much of a klutz I was,” he said, rolling his eyes. Rightfully so, that was just embarrassing. He should have been paying more attention.

He seemed to perk up a bit when she asked if he was fine. ”Oh yeah, I’m good. A few scrapes, probably a bruise or two. Nothing I’m not used to getting out on the football field. Nah, the only thing really hurt is my dignity but…I’m sure I can come back from this,” he said with a shrug. Hopefully he would forget all about it in a few days. Then again, how could he forget anything that resulted in an encounter with the beautiful woman in front of him? Thankfully, he had a large enough ego that he was sure his dignity would return itself quick enough.

"I don't usually run into many people when I'm out here running. Do you come out onto this trail often?" he questioned. He didn't remember ever seeing her out here before. That didn't mean anything though. It wasn't as if he were out here every single night.

Ryan was really adamant about this. Poor thing. Mickayla put effort into her personal appearance and sat pretty high on the social totem pole. But this was kind of ridiculous. What it must've been like to constantly worry about stuff like that. All she had to do was look the part every day. It wasn't like her more obscure interests were often the topics of discussion but did she have any hush-hush secrets? Not...really? Not that she could think of off the top of her head.

Mickayla's faux innocence stayed as Ryan made a case for himself. It was taking a lot of willpower not to cut him off with a chain of laughter. Not that she was making fun of him or anything but first he was speechless! Like, actually speechless. The Ryan Reese could not find the words. And then now he felt the need to plead his request. Okay, Mickayla wasn't an actually mean person. But she wasn't about to stop this rare, humble display from this guy. After a moment of silence, Mickayla broke her dramatic pause. "Classic may be pushing it but don't worry, I won't tell. I don't hate you, dude. It's also very catchy. I have all three albums downloaded. I'm not judging," the blonde gave a nod with a trace amount of smugness. It was really hard not to giggle at all of this. It was not even a big deal to her. Ryan was just lucky he ran into the one cheerleader that didn't thrive on exploiting rumors. Just another perk of not being obsessed with Ryan.

"An expert? Guess it'll have to be that much harder to figure out," Kayla replied with a decidedly cheeky grin. If he was going to pull that darn smirk, she was going to be that much more difficult as well. Mickayla was not going to give in. Even if his little ramble was out of nowhere and was admittedly cute. "Nothing wrong with doing things with your grandma," Kayla reassured him before adding, "well, stick with it. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to add yet another talent to the list. Make all the girls swoon." She tacked on the last statement with heavy sarcasm. Even if she was sure, most of the girls in the school would simply die if Ryan turned out to be a singer.

A look of concern, though, crossed Mickayla's face as Ryan mentioned his dad. "Harsh. Contrary to popular belief, you're not a god amongst men. You're allowed to make mistakes," she crossed her arms. Even though he perked up, Kayla was still unamused. That wasn't okay. Especially with her around because she was not going to be the blame for whatever trash his dad gave him. The coach was a tough cookie but she also didn't play the guy's sport and she was definitely not related to him. "Your dignity is fine," she patted his shoulder with a dramatic pout. "You're just lucky it's me and not one of your many admirers."

[b]"Semi-often. I try not to do much of the same thing for too long. Gets too predictable,"
Kayla answered, resting her hands on her hips. It wasn't like she was too worried about getting followed or anything but Kayla rarely followed the same patterns. She liked to switch up her routes.

Ryan just shrugged his shoulders. He would have thought High School Musical was definitely a Disney classic. He didn’t care what she said. She didn’t know what she was talking about. ”Okay, if you say so. I’m not a Disney expert,” he told her. He may have watched plenty of Disney movies as a kid, but only a couple of them had ever stuck with him like High School Musical. How could he be expected to be able to properly classify what was or wasn’t a ‘classic’?

That grin lit up his face one more as she admitted to having all three of the albums downloaded. He was glad he wasn’t alone on this. ”Ah, a woman after my own heart. I knew you had good tastes,” he complimented. He was just relieved that she wasn’t going to run around and tell everyone about his special interest. He supposed it wouldn’t ruin his reputation if the world were to know that he liked High School Musical. If anything, the chicks might dig him more for it…but oh the hazing he would get from the other guys. No, it wasn’t worth it.

”Bring it on, I love a challenge,” Ryan informed her, his eyes flashing with excitement. She was definitely a mystery he would enjoy solving. He didn’t much appreciate the sarcasm about his talents though. For a moment, he had thought maybe they were actually connecting. ”Well, as long as you’re swooning then I guess it wouldn’t be so bad,” he decided, shooting her a wink. Okay, even he knew she wasn’t doing that but that didn’t mean he was above pressing her buttons on the issue a little.

The football player looked surprisingly serious as she mentioned he was allowed to make mistakes. He couldn’t even be amused by the ‘god amongst men’ comment. ”Well…trying telling the coach that. Besides, we’re coming up on senior year. I really can’t afford to make any mistakes,” he pointed out. Mistakes could result in him losing everything he had been working for over the past few years. He had to get recruited by a good college.

He let out a quiet sigh, trying to shake those serious thoughts away as he felt her hand on his shoulder. ”The more you keep insisting that you aren’t one of my admirers, the less I’m believing it,” he said with a laugh. That would probably get a little bit of a rise out of her, but it was fine. His Troy Bolton voice and looks could get him out of any bad situation.

Unfortunately, her next statement sent the teen’s might plummeting right into the gutter. ”I’m glad you don’t do the same thing too often. It gets really boring that way. You have to spice it up a little. i have feeling you’re good at that though, huh?” he mused. She was probably going to hit him. O rips his clothes off. Or both. Ryan really wasn’t mad either way.

"Hey, I'm not knocking HSM. I just happen to actually be a Disney expert. '94 is the technical cut off date," Mickayla cited with a rock of her heels. "I"m just being difficult. I bought all the High School DVD's, too." If Ryan thought he had an embarrassing secret, Kayla could only imagine what he would think of her desperation to find someone to duet ANY of the High School Musical songs for 8th-grade talent show. Of course, finding a boy that didn't hate it with unbridled rage was not easy. Apparently, she wasn't around the right kids.

And this is where Mickayla's guard went right up. "Ahhh, haha well, I wouldn't get my hopes up, to be honest, " she said with a decidedly friendly punch to his shoulder. It was really more of light push with her fist but it was most definitely overcompensating. She...ruined a moment. An actual pleasant moment. She knew it. But it was too late to take it back. Then she went and pulled that friend zone punch cliche. Ugh. But at the same time, she really wasn't in the position to start dating Ryan Reese. She really wasn't in the position to be dating anyone...Not with the amount of stress she had on her plate. "I don't do swooning. But you should definitely hit up the volleyball team." Mickayla shot him a look of 'really?' at his wink. Kayla knew a lot of girls who would have melted on the spot. But this all went back to her knowing Ryan was attractive and then Ryan knowing it as well. It didn't matter how cute he was, she wasn't about to go for this. Too obvious, too easy.

There was a look of real concern. Mickayla knew how important senior year was. And she knew just how important it was to stay on the game through every season. But still, this was crazy. "Well, then, I won't tell if you don't," she said lamely. There was no argument and she really didn't want to make it. Small town high school football games were kind of a huge deal. Something happened to the star player and the town would go into an uproar.

"And that's exactly why I'm not one! Dude, you're not a bad guy but real talk, I'm pretty sure you love yourself more than you love the conquests," she said, crossing her arms over her chest with a challenging grin. In the words of a classic Disney princess, 'I am not a prize to be won.'

See, now, if Ryan wasn't into the whole hookup culture, Kayla might have gone easier on him. But yeah, no, the last thing Kayla needed was to be going around with every proposition she got. Lest she wanted to be the next Alice Carvalho, it was better to stay away from all the Ryans at the school. Not that Kayla was a cheater like Alice, but still, a reputation for sleeping with half the soccer team was not something the blonde needed.

Okay, Mickayla had half a mind to smack Ryan. But she was pretty sure she'd already made enough contact during this conversation. She didn't even want to give him a reason to say anything more about that. "Not that you'd know," Kayla teased. Her expression literally did a 180 from the look of rage to a very haughty smirk.

A frown tugged at Ryan’s lips at this revelation of ’94 being the cut-off date for Disney classics. ”Wait…so you’re telling me that freaking Hercules isn’t a Disney classic?” he asked, eyes widening in horror at the thought. ”Who made this rule? Because I think this is a lie. You can’t tell me THAT isn’t a classic. Nope. The new cut-off date is now 1999 and that’s final,” he decided, clearly a little on the appalled side at this revelation. Okay, so he had watched a lot of Disney movies in his days. Clearly. He was an only child. What else was he supposed to do when he was little?

The football player winced slightly at the punch to the shoulder, though it had nothing to do with the force behind the punch. Especially considering there wasn’t much force behind it to begin with. Was that a blow to his ego? Yeah, just a little bit. It was fine. Just fine. Thankfully, he had enough common sense not to mention that he had already hit up a good portion of the volleyball team. While he normally wouldn’t hesitate to offer up such a piece of information, there was a little voice in his head telling him it wouldn’t help him out any to do so. He wished this voice would visit him a little more often but at least it kept him from screwing up once in awhile. ”Eh…I think I’ll pass on that,” he said with a shrug. He did love a woman in spandex though…

He was lost in those thoughts for a moment or two before Mickayla mentioned that she wouldn’t tell. It brought an amused grin back to Ryan’s face. ”Well aren’t you quite the rebel? But yes, my lips are sealed,” he laughed, making the motion of zipping his lips shut. He obviously wasn’t going to run around bragging that he had run into Mickayla Barnes out on his run - literally. Though if he had to be honest, he certainly had no complaints that she was the one he had run into.

Ouch. She was not one to hold back what she was thinking, was she? It was both hot and, well, offensive. He supposed her words happened to hold quite a bit of truth to them, however. It actually took him a moment or two to formulate a response to that statement. ”Don’t they always blab on all those inspirational posters that you’re supposed to love yourself?” he shot back, raising an eyebrow. There really wasn’t anything wrong with being confident, Ryan was pretty sure. Maybe he was too confident but…there were worse things a person could be. He hadn’t ever come across anyone who he did find to be worth more than just a hook-up or two. Sure, he dated a girl here and there, but never more than a few months. What was the point in sticking around with someone he had no interest in, long-term? Wouldn’t doing so make him a bad person for ‘leading’ them on or something? Okay, some of them still felt that way but…well, he just couldn’t win sometimes when it came to women. Lots of times, actually.

He was smirking again, his expression mirroring hers. She definitely wasn’t going to grovel at his feet any time soon, was she? Oddly enough, Ryan was perfectly okay with that. While he did love the attention and admiration, some of these girls were just so…pathetic. It was no wonder he only wanted to be with them for a short amount of time. ”Not yet I don’t,” he told her, still smirking. He was becoming more and more determined to change that. In what ways, exactly? He didn’t know. He was going to figure it out though.

"I didn't make the rules! I just know them," Mickayla hummed with a small chuckle. It was an odd line to draw. Who chose a year like '94? "Accepted. Now to fight Disney." Despite having grown up with all the Disney movies, Mickayla had never once questioned the way things were run. It was a fun notion, though. It was pretty cute to see Ryan so adamant about this. But again, it was not at all going to be said out loud.

Well, it was a little bit impressive that Ryan passed on the volleyball team. But then again, that could have easily been a tactic. Kayla had just called him out on being a player in a way. Still, she wasn't about to hold it against him. She would just have to take his word for it for the time being.

"Sure, confidence is healthy but I'm not sure there's room for other people." Not that Mickayla was inquiring for the near future but she had to put it out there. She just wasn't about that hookup lifestyle. Meanwhile, Ryan was the poster boy. It wasn't like Mickayla hadn't dated in the past and there was nothing in specific that she had against the athletes but she couldn't stand the whole entitlement thing. She wasn't about to be the school slut. Unlike getting revered like the guys, it wasn't at all the same for the girls. She had to be careful.

Maybe Ryan knew exactly what he was talking about with being careful. Kayla never realized just how carefully she played things for the sake of reputation.

Mickayla's eyes narrowed and she actually let out a small laugh, "presumptuous. You know that's only going to make things more difficult for yourself, right?" She couldn't believe this! The blonde was pretty torn between feeling competitive and maybe just a wee bit interested. But now it felt like she absolutely needed to make a point to not let him in at all.

Ryan eyed Mickayla suspiciously, trying to decide if he believed her or not. He felt like he should have known if such a rule existed. He’d watched plenty of Disney movies in his days. There was no shame in it. They made some really amazing movies! ”Or maybe you’re one of them?” he suggested. ”I just don’t know if I can believe such a rule exists. I mean, nothing against you - I’m not saying you’re a liar just…maybe you’re misled,” he explained to her.

Okay, he really needed to get off track of this Disney thing. Never in a million years did he think he would be having a conversation like this with one of his classmates. Certainly not with someone like Mickayla Barnes. He was probably making himself look more and more ridiculous by the minute. He wanted to believe she wouldn’t be the type to use this against him and tarnish his reputation but…he also didn’t know. It wasn’t like he knew her that well. She was very attractive. A cheerleader. Fairly wealthy, from what he had heard. Apparently she enjoyed running and Disney movies - especially High School Musical. Oh and she didn’t have any desire to worship the ground he walked upon. That about summarized everything he knew about her thus far.

This conversation seemed to be taking a turn away from joking about Disney movies to questioning who he was as a person. Not directly, obviously, but he felt like the comment she just made was some kind of double-edged sword. Maybe he should have stuck with talking about Disney…

Instead, he gave a shrug of his shoulders. ”I wouldn’t say that. You just have to find the people who are worth making room for,” he said after a moment. He loved his parents, for example…even if his dad could be a bit much to deal with and they seemed to think he was some kind of perfect android rather than a person sometimes. He liked to think his ego could make room for other people too. Like Cameron. That was about it though…he just hadn’t found anyone else. Yet. Maybe there was someone standing right in front of him?

A hint of surprise flickered through his eyes at her response. That was definitely on the flirty side. Perhaps she wasn’t as oblivious to his charms as she had initially claimed? This was interesting. He honestly wasn’t quite sure how he should proceed…if he should proceed. He was going to need to think this all over. However, getting Mickayla to like him? It seemed like a worthy cause. He did enjoy a challenge. ”Luckily for you, I’m good at not caving under pressure. I think I can handle it,” he promised her, smirking. She could make it as hard as she wanted - that would be perfectly okay with him.

"Misled. Okay, okay. Well, assuming you can confirm or deny my involvement in this scandal, you should let me know what you find. Don't take this laying down," Mickayla said with a strong sense of conviction. Hey, if Ryan Reese wanted to talk about Disney, she was down. It was better than trying to get in her pants. Actual conversation? She could do that. Mickayla really did not hate the guy. What she couldn't stand was the idea of being objectified. Unfortunately, Ryan had a reputation for that.

Ryan's response to her rather blunt statement was unexpected. Kayla was ready for a display of machismo self-righteousness, maybe some flexing. But instead, she got an actually good response from him...Maybe Mickayla had him wrong. On some parts. She was fairly certain there was quite a bit of truth to Ryan's escapades with a fair amount of Angel Grove's female population. "Fair point," Mickayla stated with a considerably less amount of damnation. She really had to think about how little she actually knew Ryan. There was actually a bit of guilt sneaking its way into her expression.

Gosh, Mickayla really needed to get going before she said something she was going to regret. Already she had exponentially raised their interaction time from the past few years. She was learning a lot. But damn if she wasn't feeling the remorse for flirting maybe just a little bit. It wasn't on purpose! Most of it wasn't supposed to come out that way at all. But it did and she was going to roll with it. Besides, there was still plenty of room to backtrack and no promises were made.

"Uh-huh, we'll see. You sound pretty sure that I'm going to cave," Mickayla quirked an eyebrow, smirking back. Her hands propped on either hip, hitching to one side with a haughty look in her eye.

Ryan took this as the perfect opportunity to pose dramatically. He placed his hands on his hips, staring off into the distance in the most Superman-like pose he could muster. ”Fear not, for justice will prevail. I will fight for what is right and you’ll be the first to know the outcome,” he vowed. When it came to Disney…that was some pretty serious stuff. Even Ryan Reese wouldn’t deny that.

He hadn’t expected to run into Mickayla tonight and he certainly had never expected to have any serious conversations with her. Again, it wasn’t as if their paths often crossed. Something about the cheerleader definitely intrigued him though - made him want to have actual conversations with her. It wasn’t something he was used to experiencing and, to be honest, he was a little weirded out by it.

”I’m not considered to be a manwhore just because I think that kind of thing is fun, you know. I just really have yet to come across anyone that I have a serious interest in,” he said after a moment of silence. The words had kind of just flown out of his lips suddenly without him being able to think twice about it. Again, that was a normal thing for him to do…the fact that he was blurting out these serious facts about himself though? Kind of weird. Maybe he had hit his head when he fell and hadn’t realized it?

Needless to say, he much preferred the banter to the serious talk. That was what he knew how to do. He was in his element when it came to things like that. Feelings were scary. Screw that. Amusement flickered through his gaze as that smirk found its way onto his face again. ”Hm…I don’t think I ever sad that, now did I? All I said was I wasn’t one who caved under pressure. I think you might be the one in danger of caving, Barnes. But don’t worry, if you do cave - I’ll be there to catch you,” he said smoothly.

He wouldn’t have any problems with that.
