Part Two

The group meets in the parking lot and travels en convoy to the quarry, where it all began. Among the rubble of the fallen cliff, there are no answers immediately found, but their missing party, the boy who had dropped his phone, searches for his own answers. Coming together, for better or worse, the five teenagers attempt to shed light into the unknown.

After nearly removing the classroom door handle on her way back out, leaving it dead and jammed instead, Hayden reminded herself that everything was now basically tissue paper. Tissue paper. She reminded herself several times over on her way out to her dad’s car, because, no—she was not going to have an, “Oops!” with the Porsche. No freaking way. It was bad enough she was driving it in the first place, and she didn’t need a dent or missing parts added to what she was sure was going to be an already terrible sentence.

So, no. Hayden was also not offering a ride to anyone in the group. She wished she could, but, apart from the Carrera being a two-seater, she wasn’t going to be held liable for another person’s kung fu grip when she barely had a handle on her own problems. Thankfully, though, the dark-haired girl had a car—or, no…

Hayden recognized the Toyota as it pulled up behind her on the quarry road. She had seen it every morning pulling out of the driveway next door while she waited for the bus, and she had been offered a ride to school by its driver nearly just as often. The idea that this girl was more than just a fling and probably Kinda Slutty’s girlfriend was starting to solidify in Hayden’s mind more and more, which gave her a bit of an uncomfortable twinge. But…it wasn’t like it mattered at the moment. Whatever was going on, it involved both of them. All of them.

The redhead got out of the classic red sportscar with all the care of a demolition’s expert disarming an explosive, shutting the door gingerly and taking a large step away from the vehicle before feeling safe. Walking over to the Toyota as the others got out of the car, Hayden looked between the faces, feeling that familiar unfamiliarity. She didn’t know their names, how old they were, what class they were in… The dark-haired girl had an ex-Jeep, was her neighbor’s girlfriend probably, and had been particularly angry about some guy named Chaz last night; the blonde was a runner, maybe, and seemed to have some issue with the dark-haired girl; and the boy with glasses…went to the same school as the rest of them. That was it. That was all she knew, and, given the circumstances they were all sharing in, it seemed oddly scant.

“I’m Hayden, by the way,” the redhead introduced herself willingly for the first time since her arrival in Angel Grove—no hostility, no reluctance—before turning to walk down the quarry road toward the spot where it had hall begun. “Hayden Flynn,” she clarified, glancing over her shoulder with the most pleasant expression she could muster through all the situational apprehension and uncertainty. “I just moved here a little over a week ago. Some luck, huh?”

After fetching the keys from Cameron, Alice herded Mikayla and Benji toward the trusty old Toyota. Despite her hands shaking slightly, an after affect of having completely demolished her vehicle the night before, she carefully pushed the key toggle and unlocked the doors. The last thing she needed to do was put a questionable dent in her cousin’s car. It might not be as flashy as the redhead’s Porche but Cameron loved the thing. She’d loved her Jeep. Gritting her teeth, she slipped behind the driver’s seat and carefully adjusted it, pulling herself closer to the wheel by several inches before fiddling with the mirrors.

Once everyone was in, she pulled out of the parking lot and made her way to the quarry at a much more subdued pace than she had taken them previously. Pulling in behind, but not too close, to the red sports car, Alice turned the car off and sat for a moment, watching the way that the other girl gingerly removed herself from the car.

Finally ready, but not really, to face the reality of what had happened, Alice got out of the car as well and winced when she closed the door with her usual force and it slammed shut, rocking the car slightly. ”Well shit.”

As the four of them gathered together, she pulled the sleeves of her hoodie over her hands and hugged her waist. The redhead was the first to speak. Hayden Flynn. The girl that her cousin was mooning over. Following along down the path back towards here it had all begun, Alice spoke up next. ”Alice Carvalho. Sounds like pretty shit luck to me.”

She glanced at the others, thinking about introducing them before deciding that they could speak for themselves. Also, she really didn’t feel like being the one to just blurt out what had to be on the minds of everyone present. Mainly, how the fuck they were even alive.

Well...'Cameron's' car...it wasn't anything like Mickayla was used to. Besides being traumatized and prone to sudden destruction, she was being led to some kind of beater Toyota. Definitely not from that decade. Maybe not even the 21st century. Letting the boy take the front seat, Mickayla let herself into the back seat of the sedan. Big mistake. What was...Why were things stained? There were cereal bits in every crack and crevice. Sticky stuff, everywhere. Juice at some time, perhaps? Judging by the random sippy cup peeking out from under the passenger seat. Next to her, a booster seat was firmly fixed and there were wet wipes in front of her knees. The blonde was not used to this at all...

Hugging her backpack on her knees, loose hair hanging over the front of her shoulder (not wanting the previous large messy bun to possibly rub against some of the potentially sticky upholstery) and refusing to rest her back on the seat, Mickayla watched the familiar scenery pass by. She'd managed to get in the questionable old car without destroying it--even if she might have thought the thing would have fallen apart without the aid of spontaneous super strength.

With an almost limp hand, Mickayla pushed the car door shut behind her. They arrived at the quarry and she could still remember running through there just the night before...Suddenly it all felt so alien. Like she had no idea where she was anymore. She saw the red Porsche as they pulled in and very much wished the redhead would have let Mickayla ride in the cleaner and less-terrifying vehicle.

Honestly, if it weren't for the miscellaneous child messes, Mickayla wouldn't have felt so uneasy.

Taking a few steps toward the forming group once more, Mickayla jogged around the side of the Toyota to catch pace with both Alice and the redhead...Hayden. "Mickayla Barnes. Welcome to Angel Grove, pretty swell place to be..." Mickayla tacked on the last bit with a good amount of sarcasm. Had it not been for the freaky event the night before, Mickayla might have actually been able to sell the quaint but not-so-shabby town.
